Advocacy Meetings with 50 CSOs in Monrovia

Background

The meeting with 50 CSOs is an activity under END-FGM project funded by AMPLIFYCHANGE UK Ltd. The meetings were intended for CRI-L and other stakeholders to jointly review the draft FGM bill and develop a petition statement to be presented to the house of legislature for the passage of the Anti-FGM bill.

Objective

The objective of this report is to provide a clear understanding of what was implemented, achievements, challenges and lessons learned.

Detail activity: Meeting

In the month of February, 2024, CRI-L held two (2) separate meetings with 50 CSO in Monrovia. The meetings were held at the Sinkor Palace Hotel in Congo Town and at the ICAMPUS conference room up snapper hill, Carey Street, Monrovia, Liberia. The 2 meetings brought together 100 persons representing 50 civil society including, women and children protection organizations in Liberia.  During the meetings, all participants were given copies of the bill titled: An Act Prohibiting Female Genital Mutilation in Liberia in order for them review and make their own input into the recommendations that were being derived to be submitted to the house of legislature for the passage of the bill. The meetings lasted for 2 hours 30 minutes each, beginning at 10:00Am- 12:30PM daily. The meetings were facilitated by Miss. Sandra Kanswen, Advocacy officer of CRI-L. Also during the meetings, suggested that the FGM working group in Liberia should be contacted and that they should form part of all major activities in order for us to present a united front, whilst engaging with the house of Legislature for the passage of the bill.

At the close of the meetings, participant drew out several recommendations that will be synchronized and submitted to the house of legislature through the petitioning ceremony.
